Mahindra has launched the Thar ROXX, the 5-door version of its iconic off-roader, with prices starting at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The ROXX addresses the biggest criticism of the 3-door Thar -- limited rear seat and cargo space -- while retaining the go-anywhere capability that made the original a cult favourite.
The Thar ROXX is 480mm longer than the 3-door version with a 2850mm wheelbase, resulting in significantly more rear legroom and a proper boot. It is available with the same engine options: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol producing 162 bhp and a 2.2-litre diesel making 175 bhp. Both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains are offered, with the 4x4 getting a low-range transfer case and mechanical locking differential.
The feature list has been significantly upgraded with a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and Harman Kardon sound system. Safety kit includes 6 airbags, ESC, hill-hold, and hill-descent control as standard across all variants. The Thar ROXX directly competes with the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, and even the newly launched Force Gurkha 5-door.
